Schools

  • South Texas College is the first college in the entire State of Texas to earn the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Accreditation for its Precision Manufacturing Technology Program. The University of Texas Pan American Regional Biotech Program in Clinical Laboratory Sciences operates the only Mobile Biotechnology Laboratory in the state, and is only one of three in the United States. UTPA offers a Ph.D. in Business Administration with an emphasis in International Business, one of six such degree programs in the United States. McAllen has had three of its schools rank among Best Public Schools in Texas.

Health Care

  • The McAllen area is has five full-service hospitals, four imaging centers, one mental health hospital, two wellness centers, three cancer treatment centers, industrial medicine, rehabilitation treatment and many outpatient services. These facilities are prime examples of why the McAllen is the medical center of the region.
