McAllen Population Swells with ‘Winter Texans’

McAllen’s population nearly doubles each year from October through March as retirees descend upon this area from the north.
“Winter Texans” spend the fall and winter in south Texas to escape the harsh weather conditions in their home states of Nebraska‚ North Dakota‚ Minnesota and Wisconsin. The part-time residents enjoy the tropical climate‚ golf courses‚ Mexican culture‚ square dancing and just being outdoors.
Most of the Winter Texans live in mobile-home parks and RV campgrounds‚ although a growing number have set up permanent residence.
